I know that this comment is way too late for this post but I don't care. I've been looking all over for someone to agree with me that this is one of the worst shows on tv (and disappointing since I was really looking forward to it), and explain to me why it's such a let-down. And you nailed it, thanks for the explanation
"I tend to finish every book I crack open no matter how tedious..."
That's more than I give each book. If it can't grab me by the end of the first page, it's donated to the library.
Btw, I like the conversation between Dull Handsome Lawyer and Miss Brook. One of my pet peeves as a reader is too much description, especially cluttering up a conversation. I’d read one sentence of dialogue. Then my train of thought would be shattered by the writer blathering on about feelings and/or description and/or back story, so by dialogue sentence #2 I had completely forgotten what DS#1 had said and had to go back and re-read. Unless someone pulls out a gun or pulls off their clothes, I don't want to read anything that interrupts conversation.
I've never watched "The Gilded Age" and probably never will. The show I'm anxiously awaiting is "Bosch: Legacy." I loved Connelly's books and the series.
I've been looking forward to seeing what you had to say about this show. I wanted to like The Gilded Age, but was disappointed by it, and you've done a good job of articulating why!
