True, there are a LOT of side trips, but I have to say, I love them. I wouldn't have missed the side trips, and the impossibility of it all. At least Stranger Things realizes it is not SAVING SOCIETY, and keeps the characters in character. It is not good writing, from an Adult, MFA, point of view. THen again, it is fabulous YA, great dialogue, and even better escape from the real world. DO you have your hellfire club shirt ?

Well, still being stubbornly stuck with my free 'over the air' TV, I'm in no position to comment, but here we are. I'll forever be watching reruns of Buffy for my almost daily dose of ghouls and inept vampires.

Jeff, right on the money with this one... as usual. Why does a season finale need to be nearly as long as LOTR movie? It doesn't. Less is more, although I guess if you have Netflix throwing money at you for their biggest show, you can do what you like.

As an older viewer you could just see the padding and think, come on guys, let's get on with it. As we've said before this streaming thing just seems to not know when to reign it in and often a 4-part season is then 8 episodes with loads of padding and not much movement. It's a shame, but I wonder if that is only us older viewers that see that, being sued to the 60-minute TV format for so much of our lives?

Am I just a grumpy old fart?

Here's the thing: I enjoy most of these episodes. I enjoy the character interactions, and even the side quests. As entertainment, for me, it works gangbusters. And I think a lot of viewers in general don't mind the length precisely because they *do* enjoy hanging out in that universe with those characters. But it's not good writing, necessarily. Entertainment value and good writing can be two different things, and I think that's where ST lives right now.
